Men's Swimming & Diving: Wettig earns third GNAC Rookie of the Week honor, Clark named to GNAC Honor Roll

WINTHROP, Mass. - The Norwich University men's swimming & diving team kept its early-season momentum rolling with another week of Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) recognition, as sophomore Gabe Wettig (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) was tabbed GNAC Rookie of the Week for the third time this season, while junior Andrew Clark (Acworth, Ga.) landed on the GNAC Weekly Honor Roll, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.

The Cadets remained unbeaten in head-to-head competition with a 174-106 win over Husson University on Saturday afternoon inside Goodyear Pool.  Norwich tallied 10 event wins across the 16-event slate, backed by key scoring efforts from Wettig and Clark.

Wettig played a pivotal role in the victory, contributing to four top-three finishes.  He claimed first place in the 100-yard freestyle (51.49), added a runner-up showing in the 100-yard individual medley (1:00.24), and placed third in the 200-yard freestyle (1:54.08).  Wettig also anchored the Cadets' 400-yard medley relay team, partnering with Drew Bylow (Monroe, Mich.), Adrian Riendeau (Ridgecrest, Calif.), and Clark to post a 3:45.05 and secure an early lead for the Cadets.

The weekly honor marks Wettig's third GNAC Rookie of the Week accolade this season, continuing a strong sophomore campaign after earning the same distinction last week.

Clark delivered a dominant four total wins performance on Saturday, earning four total wins to help power Norwich past the Eagles.  The junior captured individual titles in the 200-yard butterfly (2:01.17) and 500-yard freestyle (5:09.45), leading the field in both events by comfortable margins.  He also swam the butterfly leg in the the Cadets' winning 400-yard medley relay, and returned later to help seal the meet in the 200-yard freestyle relay, where Norwich edged Husson's top group by less than half a second with a 1:30.28 finish.

The honor marks Clark's second GNAC Honor Roll selection of the season.

Norwich will return to the pool on Saturday, Nov. 8, hosting Maine Maritime Academy at 10:00 a.m. inside Goodyear Pool to close out a three-meet homestand.
