PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Little East Conference (LEC) announced its weekly awards for the week ending Nov. 23, Monday afternoon, including two wingers on the Norwich Women's Ice Hockey team. Junior
Livia Brooks (Walpole, Mass.) earned Player of the Week recognition, while
Geena Cookinham (Gilmanton Iron Works, N.H.) earned Rookie of the Week plaudits.
The two-time American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) All-American Brooks continued her stellar start to her junior season. In Friday's contest against Southern Maine, she tallied assists on both goals by
Jordan Brady (Green Bay, Wis.) before adding a goal of her own in the third period. In Saturday's contest against UMass Boston, Brooks added a power-play goal in the third period on top of an assist on
Anna Lisac's (Euclid, Ohio) goal for a total of five points on the weekend.
Cookinham also made her impact against the Beacons, deflecting home a point shot from
Lauren Tuzik (Frankfort, Ill.) in the first period, eventually proving to be the game-winning marker. She is making an impact up front, sitting third on the team in goals and the top first-year goal scorer in the LEC.
Brooks and Cookinham will look to continue their strong seasons when Norwich returns to LEC play, visiting Plymouth State on Dec. 3 before rounding out the first semester with non-conference contests on home ice against SUNY Morrisville and Cortland State.
