HOLDERNESS, N.H.- The Norwich Women's Ice Hockey team returned to action for its first game in eleven days with a trip to Plymouth State on Wednesday afternoon for their final Little East Conference (LEC) contest of 2025.
Off the opening puck drop, the Panthers held the upper hand, testing
Madison Brunet (Timmins, Ont.) on an early power play. After a successful kill, the Cadets went on the offensive towards Plymouth State netminder Teagan Wilson on their first man advantage. Late in the period, Brunet made several stops before Norwich broke through in the last two minutes.
Off an
Anna Lisac (Euclid, Ohio) faceoff win, collected by
Madison Anderson (Green Bay, Wis.), the puck was handed off to
Livia Brooks (Walpole, Mass.), who circled the attacking zone. Once she reached the blue line, Brooks sent it along to
Jordan Brady (Green Bay, Wis.) at the right point, who wristed a shot through traffic by Wilson's glove to give the Cadets the lead at the break.
Just under four minutes into the second period, Norwich stretched their lead to two. As the Cadets were pressing,
Lauren Tuzik (Frankfort, Ill.) kept the play alive and banked the puck off the right boards for
Natalie Heutmaker (Eagan, Minn.). Wilson stopped Heutmaker's original shot, but the rebound came to a wide-open Brooks, who buried the puck into a yawning cage. After the tally, the Cadets continued to press, holding Plymouth State shotless through the first nine minutes of the frame, but Wilson kept it a two-goal game at the second intermission.
The Norwich pressure continued into the third period, including several power play opportunities that were unsuccessful. With just under four minutes remaining, while on the man advantage, Wilson went to the bench for the extra attacker. Two minutes later,
Marja Linzbichler (Graz, Austria) cleared the defensive zone, and
Libby Lane (Northville, Mich.) beat out an icing to set up Lisac for the empty netter to clinch the 3-0 win for the maroon and gold.
"It was a slow start to the game for our group," said Head Coach
Justin Simpson. "It took us about half the first period to find our rhythm and legs. Madi shut the door on a couple of good chances for Plymouth early in the first. We have some details and habits we will be looking to clean up before our two games this weekend. Our penalty kill was strong today, and once we got into the game, we played very well. We are looking forward to our last two games of the first semester this coming weekend."
The Cadets conclude their first semester of LEC play victors of all six conference contests. They will have a non-conference weekend on home ice over the weekend, starting with a contest against SUNY Morrisville on Dec. 5 at 6:00 p.m., the first meeting between the two sides since the 2018 NCAA Tournament.
