BOSTON, Mass. – The Norwich Women's Ice Hockey team concluded their stretch of three games in four days with their second straight shutout victory Saturday afternoon against UMass Boston as they continue to roll through Little East Conference (LEC) competition.
Off the opening puck drop, the Beacons got their first cracks at
Madison Brunet (Timmins, Ont.), before the Cadets put UMass Boston goaltender Veronika Hadamovsky to the test. Once Norwich got their legs under them offensively, the Cadets opened the scoring nine minutes in.
Forecheck pressure in the attacking zone by
Olivia Boyer (Saint Paul, Minn.) forced a Beacon turnover, taken by
Lauren Tuzik (Frankfort, Ill.) at the left circle. Tuzik sent a shot towards the net, which was deflected home by
Geena Cookinham (Gilmanton Iron Works, N.H.) to give Norwich the lead. After a successful penalty kill, the Cadets continued to pepper Hadamovsky, who kept it a one-goal game at intermission.
Norwich's momentum carried into the middle frame, as they continued to throw pucks and bodies at Hadamovsky. Still, despite several good looks and two power plays, it remained a one-goal game after forty minutes.
In the first five minutes of the third period, Norwich went to their third man advantage of the contest, where they cashed in. As they worked the puck around the zone, Tuzik sent a wrist shot from center point on goal, which Hadamovsky stopped, generating a net mouth scramble. The original stuff-in attempt by
Madison Anderson (Green Bay, Wis.) was denied, but
Livia Brooks (Walpole, Mass.) jammed it home to stretch the lead.
With the Cadets continuing to press, they stretched the lead to three. More forecheck pressure by Anderson forced a UMass Boston turnover, which came to Brooks in the left corner, who found
Anna Lisac (Euclid, Ohio) at the left faceoff dot, beating Hadamovsky to the glove side for her first of the season to round out the scoring.
Brunet earns her second clean sheet of the season, while Brooks earns her second straight multipoint game with a goal and an assist in addition to a two-helper day for Tuzik.
"It took our group half of the first to find our legs," said Head Coach
Justin Simpson. "Once we did, we played hard and drove the play. This was a tough stretch for us, with three games in four days this week. While we scored several goals in those games, our defense and goaltending were excellent. We didn't give up a 5v5 goal in our three games this week. Our group is looking forward to a little Thanksgiving break, then getting back to work for our remaining three games of the semester."
After Thanksgiving break, the Cadets will travel to Plymouth State on Dec. 3 at 4:00 p.m. in their last LEC contest of 2025.
