NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The Norwich University men's swimming & diving team continued its early-season momentum on Saturday afternoon, racing past Husson University in a 174-106 victory at Goodyear Pool to remain unbeaten in head-to-head competition.
The Cadets earned wins in 10 events, including both relays and a string of impressive mid-meet performances that helped open the gap.Â
Kristian Adlianitski (Cheshire, Conn.) and
Andrew Clark (Acworth, Ga.) each logged a pair of individual victories, while
Drew Bylow (Monroe, Mich.),
Adrian Riendeau (Ridgecrest, Calif.),
Gabe Wettig (Ballston Spa, N.Y.), and
Alex Sulyma (Warwick, R.I.) also recorded wins to lead a deep and balanced effort.
Norwich wasted no time setting the tone, capturing the 400-yard medley relay behind a 3:45.05 finish from Bylow, Riendeau, Clark, and Wettig. The quartet outpaced Husson's A relay by nearly seven seconds.
Sulyma and
Anthony Helmer (Morristown, N.J.) then went 1-2 in the 1000 freestyle, with Sulyma claiming top honors in 10:58.15. Adlianitski followed with the first of his two victories in the 200 freestyle (1:52.09), and Riendeau added a win in the 50 backstroke (25.22) just a few events later.
Adlianitski returned to the water to secure the 50 breaststroke in 28.88, while Clark dominated the 200 butterfly in 2:01.17. Wettig picked up a win of his own in the 100 freestyle (51.49), followed by Bylow's victory in the 200 backstroke (2:03.82), edging past Husson's Ryan Emerson by more than eight seconds.
Clark added his second individual title of the afternoon in the 500 freestyle (5:09.45), while Riendeau secured the 100-yard individual medley in 59.06 to round out Norwich's individual wins.
The Cadets closed the meet with a thrilling 200 freestyle relay victory, as Bylow, Clark, Adlianitski, and Riendeau anchored a 1:30.28 finish to hold off Husson's top group, out-touching the Eagles by less than half a second.
Prior to the start of the diving competition, Norwich formally recognized
Will Thompson '25 with the presentation of the 2025 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Athlete of the Year for Men's Sports. A three-time GNAC team champion and 22-time individual and relay title-winner during his standout career, Thompson becomes just the second male student-athlete in school history to receive the honor, joining teammate Benjamin Stark '24.
"It was a terrific day on deck to recognize
Will Thompson and his accolades in receiving the GNAC Male Athlete of the Year," said Head Coach
Jennifer Cournoyer. "Having not only Will with us, but also President Broadmeadow, BG McCollough, and
Ed Hockenbury brought a level of excitement. We had an opportunity for a number of athletes to step up, and they did. It's thrilling to see the season coming together, and we're hoping we've found a good groove."
The Norwich women's team also claimed a win in the day's dual meet, edging Husson in a 151-140 decision to complete the program sweep.
