WINTHROP, Mass. - In a season full of reaping several Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) weekly awards, the Norwich University men's swimming & diving team continues to make history, as
Arthur Abrams (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) received his first-ever GNAC Swimmer of the Week, while
Kristian Adlianitski (Cheshire, Conn.) earned a spot on the GNAC Honor Roll.
The Cadet men set nine different pool records while sweeping all 14 events in a 134-64 victory over Plymouth State University at the PSU Natatorium on Saturday afternoon.
Abrams had an impressive and historic weekend for the Cadets in their rout of Plymouth State on Saturday. He secured a pair of solo victories, topping his nearest competitor by over 10 seconds with a 2:21.08 time in the 200-yard breaststroke to set a new pool record at the Panthers' PSU Natatorium.
He proceeded to secure one of the most impressive victories of the afternoon during the 100-yard IM, tallying a 58.03 time to beat out three other scoring competitors. Abrams also saw action as part of a 200-yard medley relay team to start the meet, as well as the 50-yard butterfly, posting the third-highest score of 11 competitors.
Adlianitski, meanwhile, posted back-to-back first-place victories in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 22.55 and 49.87 times, respectively, to set pool records in both events at the PSU Natatorium. He saw time in the pool with a pair of first-place relay teams as well, closing both the 200-yard medley relay and 200-yard freestyle relay events with 1:41.16 and 1:32.26 team times, respectively.
Abrams becomes the fourth Norwich male swimmer to net GNAC Swimmer of the Week plaudits this season, joining Adlianitski,
Will Thompson (Downingtown, Pa.), and
Martin Adlianitski (Cheshire, Conn.). This marks back-to-back weeks where the Cadets have received Swimmer of the Week recognition, after
Martin Adlianitski took home honors last week.
Abrams, Adlianitski, and the Cadets closed head-to-head action with a 4-2 record after Saturday's meet at Plymouth State. A select group of swimmers will participate in the two-day Middlebury Invitational in Middlebury, Vt., over Friday, Jan. 31, and Saturday, Feb. 1. Norwich, with hopes of defending back-to-back conference titles, will then turn its attention to the three-day Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championships, hosted by Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) from Feb. 7 through Feb. 9.
