BRISTOL, R.I.- The Norwich University Wrestling team finished ninth in their second event of the season, the twelve team Roger Williams Invitational at the Roger Williams University Field House Saturday morning. The Cadets finished the event with 41 points, a half point behind eight place Coast Guard.
The most notable performance was by junior
Mason Sprinkel (Bel Air, Md.) who placed fourth in the 285-pound class. Sprinkel captured his first win in the bracket by fall in the first period over Coast Guard senior
Brian Morel (Hoffman Estates, Ill.). In the Round of 16 he would defeat junior
Jackson Schichel (Hastings, Minn.) from Wisconsin Eau-Claire who was the top seed in the draw. Sprinkel would follow that up with a victory by fall in the Quarterfinals over Plymouth State junior
Jaylin Houston (New Haven, Conn.) before bowing out in the Semifinals to Coast Guard freshman
Carl DiGiorgio (Doylestown, Pa.).
Other notable performers include junior
Zachary Vasquez (Mico, Texas) advanced as far as the Quarterfinals of the 197 pound bracket before being defeated by major decision. As well as freshman
Sean Meese who got to the Round of 16 in the 149 pound class before losing by technical fall.
Up next for the Cadets is the Battle for the Green Mountain Championship against Castleton. Festivities commence at 6 PM at Andrews Hall.
