Box Score GORHAM, Maine – Senior forward Amanda Conway (Methuen, Mass.) became the Norwich University women's ice hockey team's all-time goal scoring leader in a 5-0 shutout victory over Southern Maine on Saturday afternoon.
Conway scored at the 11:27 mark of the second period to take over sole possession of first place on the program's all-time scoring record with 94 goals, passing Julie Fortier '12, who held the record for eight years with 93 goals.
Conway's 94 goals rank her ninth all-time in NCAA Division III women's ice hockey history. She trails Plattsburgh State's Melissa Sheeran in the eighth spot with 97 career goals. Plattsburgh State's Elizabeth Gibson and Elmira's Laurd Hurd are tied for the all-time NCAA Division III record with 120 goals each.
Conway has also tallied 53 assists for 147 points in 93 games. She currently ranks third all-time in Norwich history for points behind only Sophie Leclerc '10 (163) and Fortier (175).
Senior Sophie McGovern (Hermantown, Minn.) tallied four points to lead the offense and played in her 100th career game. She scored the game-winning goal just 19 seconds into the game off assists from Alyssa Hulst (Scarborough, Maine) and Kirsten Watts (Chugiak, Alaska).
Junior defenseman Samantha Benoit (Bow, N.H.) scored her third goal of the season on the power play just 1:55 into the game to push the Cadets' lead to 2-0. McGovern and Ingrid Holstad-Berge (Stavanger, Norway) each tallied assists on the goal.
Freshman forward Julia Masotta (Tewksbury, Mass.) scored her second goal of the season off assists from Conway and Benoit at the 6:39 mark of the of the second period to make it 3-0 Norwich.
Conway scored her record-breaking goal just under five minutes later off assists from McGovern and Kayla Goleniak (Canton, Mich.).
Hulst capped the scoring at the 15:39 mark of the third period off assists from McGovern and Mikah Baptiste (Ottawa, Ontario).
Sophomore goalie Alexa Berg (West Fargo, N.D.) notched her third shutout of the season after making 13 saves to improve to 4-1-0.
Norwich outshot Southern Maine 39-13 in the game and finished 1-for-3 on the power play.
The Cadets closed the first semester on a 10-game winning streak and will carry a 10-1-0 overall record and a 7-0-0 record in league play into the holiday break.
Norwich extended its NEHC unbeaten streak to 40 straight games with the win. The Cadets will open the second semester schedule by hosting the 10th annual East-West Hockey Classic on Sunday, Jan. 5 and Monday, Jan. 6. Norwich will face No. 1-ranked Plattsburgh State at 2 p.m. on Sunday, while Elmira takes on Adrian in the second semifinal. The winners will meet in the championship on Monday at 4 p.m. and the losers will play in the consolation at 1 p.m.
