Box Score HENNIKER, N.H. – The Norwich University women's ice hockey team scored four second-period goals to power to a 5-0 victory over New England College on Friday afternoon in Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) East action.
Freshmen Maki Shuchuk (Madison, Wis.), Christine Bouchat-Bonin (St-Bernard-De-Lacolle, Quebec) and Muranda Toews (Grand Prairie, Alberta) each scored their first collegiate goals to help lead the Cadets (3-1-1, 3-0-0 ECAC East) to their third straight victory and 20th consecutive league win.
Freshman goalie Laurie King (Waddington, N.Y.) picked up the shutout in her first collegiate start, turning aside all seven shots she faced.
Senior Kaycie Anderson (Maple Plain, Minn.) continued her consistent offensive output, notching a goal and an assist to move within seven points of 100 for her career. Classmate Vanessa Champagne (St. Nazaire, Quebec) also scored to round out the Norwich offensive leaders.
After a scoreless first period, Anderson needed just 48 seconds to give the Cadets a lead that they would never look back from with her second goal of the season off assists from Kim Tiberi (Raleigh, N.C.) and Sarah Schwenzfeier (Hingham, Mass.).
Just over a minute later, Shuchuk potted her first career goal off assists from Madison Gallagher (Kirkland, Quebec) and Toews. Bouchat-Bonin made it 3-0 at the 3:02 mark of the second period off an assist from senior defenseman Liz Gemmiti (Woodbridge, Ontario) to complete the three-goal spurt in a span of 2:16.
Toews notched her first collegiate goal at the 11:56 mark off assists from Schwenzfeier and Anderson to make it 4-0 Cadets heading into the second intermission.
Champagne capped the scoring just past the midway point of third period with her first goal of the season off assists from Adelle Murphy (Roseau, Minn.) and Gemmiti.
Norwich outshot NEC 54-7. Lauren Hopps made 49 saves for NEC to fall to 0-4-0 on the season. NEC fell to 0-5-0 overall on the year.
The Cadets will look to keep their shutout streak going on Saturday at 2 p.m. when they travel to Plymouth State for another ECAC East matchup.
