GORHAM, Maine - Amanda Shorey scored a goal and
added two assists as Southern Maine posted a 3-0 shutout victory
over Norwich in an ECAC East women's hockey game played on Friday
evening. The victory boosts the Huskies' record to 4-8-0 (4-2-0
ECAC East), while the Cadets slip to 4-4-1 (1-3-1).
Shorey scored what proved to be the game-winning goal with 12:59
to play in the second period, tallying an even strength marker off
an assist from Alyssa Gibson. Less than five minutes later, Mary
Vaughan scored a power play goal to give the Southern Maine a 2-0
advantage with 8:39 to play in the second stanza. Shorey was
credited with the assist on the goal.
Megan Irving scored the final goal of the night, scoring with
6:38 left in the third period. Shorey and Gibson each picked up
assists on the scoring play.
Norwich actually outshot Southern Maine, 26-21, but the Cadets
were unable to get anything past the Huskies' goaltender Emily
Barrett. Cindy Fortin made 18 saves in net for NU. Norwich had
eight power play chances, but the Cadets were unable to convert on
any of them.
NU returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 12, when the Cadets
travel to Henniker, N.H., to take on New England College. The ECAC
East contest is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
