NORTHFIELD, Vt. - Katie Leupp scored the
game-winning goal with 38 seconds remaining in the third period,
and Cindy Fortin stopped all 44 shots that she faced as the Norwich
women's hockey team shut out visiting Connecticut College on Sunday
afternoon at Kreitzberg Arena.
The win propels the Cadets into the semester break with a 3-2-1
overall record. The Camels, meanwhile, fall to 3-5-1 on the year.
Norwich was outshot 44-24, but the Cadets got the only goal and
Fortin was outstanding between the pipes for NU. It marked the
second blanking of the season for Fortin, who shut out Plymouth
State last month. The freshman was tested in each period, stopping
eight shots in the first period, 21 in the second and 15 in the
third.
Sophie Leclerc was instrumental in the game-winning goal, as the
junior took the puck at center ice, weaved her way to the blue line
before finding Leupp for the shot. Leupp took the feed and calmly
tucked the puck into the upper right-hand corner of the net.
Norwich was especially tough on the penalty kill, stopping
Connecticut College on all 11 of its power play opportunities. The
Cadets failed to cash in on six power play chances of their own.
The Cadets will return to action on Jan. 4-5, when the team
travels to Colchester, Vt., to participate in the St. Michael's
Tournament.
