Winthrop, Mass. – Norwich University men's golfer Jake Kavanagh (Kirkland, Quebec) has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Rookie of The Week, following a strong three-round stretch across two tournaments.
Kavanagh opened the week at Norwich's home Tony Mariano Invitational , turning in a seven-over 78 to finish tied for seventh overall. His performance helped the Cadets secure a runner up team finish at the Country Club of Barre.
The freshman followed that performance by competing in the two-day Duke Nelson Invitational, where he finished tied for 67th and +19. After carding an 11-over in the opening round, Kavanagh responded with an eight-over final round, improving by three strokes and moving up the leaderboard.
Across the three rounds and two tournaments, Kavanagh finished with a combined score of +26, highlighted by his top-10 finish at Norwich's home tournament.
Kavanagh's week showcased both consistency and resilience, as the freshman followed his top-10 performance with a stronger second round at the Duke Nelson Invitational to close out the three-round stretch in rainy and windy conditions.
The GNAC Rookie of The Week honor marks Kavanagh's first conference weekly award of his collegiate career.
Kavanagh and the Cadets return to action this weekend at the Rutland Country Club, competing Saturday at 11 a.m. before returning to the course Sunday at 9 a.m.
