WINTHROP, Mass. - The Norwich University women's basketball team continued its impressive streak of first-year accolades on Monday afternoon, as freshman Maggi Ellsworth (West Topsham, Vt.) was named Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Rookie of the Week for the first time in her career.

Ellsworth becomes the third different Cadet to earn GNAC Rookie of the Week honors this season, joining classmates Gracie Laster (Arlington, Va.) and Cassidy Kittredge (Waterford, Vt.).  It marks the first time in program history that three different Norwich players have received Rookie of the Week laurels in the same season since the Cadets joined the GNAC in 1998.

The honor follows a standout week for Ellsworth, who helped power Norwich to back-to-back GNAC victories with a dominant two-way effort across both ends of the floor.  She averaged 13.5 points, 8.0 rebounds, 4.5 steals, and 2.0 assists per game while shooting 52.4% from the field and 62.5% from three-point range.

Ellsworth erupted for 17 points in just 15 minutes off the bench in Wednesday's 82-55 win over Dean College, sparking a surge that helped snap a five-game skid.  She followed with 10 points and nine rebounds in Saturday's 70-63 triumph over Saint Joseph's College of Maine, adding eight steals and four assists in a milestone win over the Monks.

The Cadets' victory over Saint Joseph's marked their first against the perennial GNAC power since 2015, improving Norwich to 2-0 in league play and 6-8 overall.

Norwich now hits the road for back-to-back GNAC contests, beginning with a 5:00 p.m. tip-off at Rivier University on Tuesday, Jan. 20.  The Cadets will then travel to Albertus Magnus College on Saturday, Jan. 24.
