Men's Soccer: Cadets Charge by Colby-Sawyer on Two Goals in the First Ten Minutes

NEW LONDON, N.H.- The Norwich Men's Soccer team continued Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play on Tuesday afternoon when they took the short drive down Interstate 89 to Colby-Sawyer, riding two goals in the first ten minutes to an emphatic victory.

The first of those tallies came in the seventh minute. Alessandro D'Arena (Berlin, Conn.) took possession in the attacking midfield and sent the ball forward to Max Lahoud (Upper Saddle River, N.J.). Lahoud launched a ball from deep that rang off the right post and came right to Christian Grubic (Montvale, N.J.), who dribbled the ball over Charger goalkeeper Yener Bartolon to the bottom right corner to break the ice.

Four minutes later, as Norwich remained on the attack, Andrew McDonough (Gilford, N.H.) gathered the ball on the left side of the field just outside the box and passed it off to Miles Bergeson (Charlotte, Vt.). Bergeson sent a cross towards the right post, finding the head of Diego Fuentes (Valencia, Spain) and converting to the top left corner, making it a two-goal game in the early stages. The Chargers mounted a counterattack, but Tyler Ziminski (Huntington, N.Y.) and the Norwich back line kept it a two-goal game at the half.

Norwich continued to hold the upper hand to start the second half and extended their lead in the 57th minute. Fuentes shook loose of his defender and sent the ball into the box, where McDonough beat Bartolon to the ball and touched it past him, making it a three-goal game.

After Ziminski shut the door with a save, and Colby-Sawyer hit the post, the Cadets added a fourth tally. Bergeson won a possession battle in the defensive midfield and sprung Shea Perkins (Carl Junction, Mo.), who moved around a sliding Bartolon and found the back of the net. Five minutes later, Cameron Albrecht (Albuquerque, N.M.) dribbled one home for his first collegiate goal. Perkins added another marker in the 76th minute, completing his first collegiate brace and putting the exclamation point on the contest.

It was a day of firsts; along with Albrecht, Grubic scored his first collegiate goal, as did McDonough, while Bergeson and Daniel Hennessey (Dubai, U.A.E.) earned their first collegiate assists, along with Ziminski's first clean sheet.

Norwich's GNAC road trip continues Saturday afternoon when they travel to Lasell for a 12 p.m. kickoff.
