NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Norwich Women's Soccer team returned home to Sabine Field Wednesday afternoon to host regional foe Plattsburgh State in the first meeting between the two programs since Oct. 28, 2014, and their first meeting on Sabine Field since 2013.
The Cardinals dominated possession from the get-go and struck early with Alexis Patrick finding the back of the net in the 11
th minute. Moments later, in the 15
th minute, Bailee Lafountain doubled the Plattsburgh lead.
As the half wore on, the Cardinals kept mounting pressure, but
Abby Kirrane (Lunenburg, Mass.) kept it a two-score game at halftime with five saves on 13 shot attempts.
Early in the second half, Norwich began to mount an attack on opportunities by
Colby Magoon (Loudon, N.H.) and
Kat Probst (Gouverneur, N.Y.) that missed wide. The Cadets established possession in the attacking third, but the Cardinal back line kept them at bay until the final whistle.
Norwich will return to Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play when it hosts Saint Joseph's College of Maine during Homecoming Weekend on Saturday. Sept. 20 at 7 p.m.
