Women's Soccer: Perry Scores in Draw with Albertus Magnus

NEW HAVEN, Conn.- The Norwich Women's Soccer team continued their early-season road swing Saturday afternoon when they played Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) foe Albertus Magnus to a 1-1 draw.

In the early minutes, both sides traded chances to break through with both back lines holding firm, including keepers Amy Stewart and Abby Kirrane (Lunenburg, Mass.).
Midway through the opening frame, the Cadets struck first. Norwich won the ball off a goal kick before Lily Briggs (Fair Haven, Vt.) found a streaking Maddy Perry (Fair Haven, Vt.), creating a break. Perry evaded the keeper, sending the ball to the bottom right corner to give Norwich the lead on her first collegiate goal in the 31st minute.

Later in the half, the Falcons had Norwich pinned in their defensive end. Kirrane came up with several saves, but Albertus found the equalizer in the 45th minute courtesy of Stacey Kasorla to send the game to halftime deadlocked with a one-touch to the bottom left corner.

The Falcons continued the momentum early in the second half, but could not break through. Both sides had opportunities to break the tie, but the score remained unchanged until the final whistle.

Kirrane came up big for Norwich with eight saves in her second straight appearance between the pipes. Offensively, Kat Probst (Gouverneur, N.Y.) led the way with two shot attempts. Probst, Perry, Jasmine Hackman (Clear Brook, Va.), Bella Roy (Weare, N.H.), and Emma Korrow (Northfield, Vt.) each had a shot on target.

The Cadets will return to Sabine Field for their next contest, where they will take on Plattsburgh State for the first time since 2014 on Sept. 17 at 4 p.m.
