NEW HAVEN, Conn.- The Norwich Men's Soccer team took the road to continue Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play with a visit to Albertus Magnus Saturday afternoon.
Norwich goalkeeper
Kirk Rodgers (Lebanon, Ohio) was tested early. After the Cadets countered with pressure resulting in a corner, the Falcons jumped ahead in the 13
th minute. A corner by Aiden Coelho bent towards goal and evaded Rodgers's grasp for an olimpico, putting Albertus in the lead.
The Cadets countered by dominating possession soon after, with
Diego Fuentes (Valencia, Spain) taking several corners, and Falcon keeper David Lucero turning down a scoring chance for
Daniel Hennessey (Dubai, U.A.E.). Albertus responded with chances of their own, but Rodgers shut the door to keep it a one-goal game at the half.
Early in the second half,
Shea Perkins (Carl Junction, Mo.) had a chance for the equalizer, but rang a shot off the post. After the initial press, the Falcons kept the Cadets hemmed in their defensive end, creating chances for themselves, while also whittling the clock to zero and preserving the win for Albertus.
Norwich's brief road swing continues when they travel to SUNY Canton on Tuesday, Sept. 16, for a 4 p.m. kickoff. Â Â
