CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Norwich University men's tennis team turned in a commanding performance on Saturday, rolling to a 9-0 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) victory over Lesley University before securing an 8-1 win over the Lynx in a non-conference rematch at the MIT Courts.
With the sweep, the Cadets improve to 6-1 overall and 2-0 in NAC play in its first year as an associate member of the NAC and an affiliate member of the Empire 8. The start marks the program's best through seven matches since 2015 when the Cadets opened 6-1 en route to a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championship match appearance. The match-ups marked the first-ever meetings between Norwich and Lesley.
The Cadets wasted no time asserting their dominance in the morning's NAC match, taking all three doubles matches before sweeping singles play in convincing fashion. At the top of the doubles lineup,
Terrance Bayly-Henshaw (Scottsville, N.Y.) and
Jaxson Redmond (Kennebunkport, Maine) delivered an 8-3 victory at No. 1 doubles. Meanwhile, the No. 2 pairing of
Keagan Bakke (Gun Barrel City, Texas) and
Gabe Wettig (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) blanked the Lynx, 8-0, while
Ethan Teluk (Manlius, N.Y.) and
Stephen Hartigan (Tyngsboro, Mass.) completed the doubles sweep with another 8-0 shutout at No. 3 doubles.
Norwich carried that momentum into singles play, where Bakke, Bayly-Henshaw, Redmond, Wettig, Teluk, and Hartigan all notched straight-set victories. Bakke cruised to a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles, while Bayly-Henshaw and Redmond each blanked their opponents, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively. Wettig dropped just two games in a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles, while Teluk handled No. 5 singles, 6-1, 6-0. Hartigan wrapped up the morning match with a 6-3, 6-0 win in the No. 6 slot, sealing the 9-0 conference sweep.
In the afternoon's non-conference rematch, the Cadets once again controlled doubles play, claiming all three matches for an early lead. Bakke and Redmond posted an 8-2 victory at No. 1 doubles, while Bayly-Henshaw teamed up with
Brandon Adamson (Londonderry, N.H.) to secure an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles. The third pairing of
Aerielle Harris (Las Vegas, Nev.) and
Hayden Frazer (Deerfield, Wis.) faced a tougher challenge but pulled through for an 8-5 victory at No. 3 doubles.
In singles play, Norwich picked up five wins in six matches to cap the afternoon victory. Redmond led the way with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles, while Wettig claimed a 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 2. Hartigan delivered another solid performance at No. 3, winning 6-3, 6-3, and Adamson was nearly perfect in a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 4. Harris rounded out the Cadets' singles victory with a 6-1, 6-1 triumph at No. 5. Lesley picked up its lone win of the day in the No. 6 singles match, when Aidan Stafford defeated Frazer, 6-2, 6-2.

Norwich now turns its attention to a highly anticipated NAC showdown with Thomas College on Saturday, Apr. 12, in Waterville, Maine. The match-up will be a crucial win for the Cadets, as Thomas handed Norwich its only loss of the season in a tightly contested 5-4 non-conference battle in Shapiro Fieldhouse on Mar. 22.
