NORTHFIELD, Vt.- The Norwich Baseball team fell short on their home field Sunday afternoon when they hosted defending Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Champion Mitchell.
Despite the Mariners scratching across a run in the second, the two sides were locked in a pitcher's duel in the early going between Chase Donahue and
Ryan Miller (Westhampton, N.Y.). The lone blemish on Miller's ledger was a fifth-inning grand slam by left fielder Kenneth Miller Jr. to widen the gap. In total, Miller struck out five Mariners in five full innings on the mound.
Kenneth Miller Jr. struck again in the seventh with a three-run home run, his second of the day, making it an eight-run game. Mitchell added one more in the eighth to round out the scoring.
Geffen Franus (Leesburg, Va.) led the Cadets offensively, going 2-4, while
Michael Sabasteanski (Ashburn, Va.) caught two Mariners attempting to steal.
Norwich will continue GNAC play when they visit the University of Saint Joseph on April 15 at 3 PM.
