WEST HARTFORD, Conn.- As they continued their pursuit of a spot in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Tournament, the Norwich Baseball team took a ride to the University of Saint Joseph in a crucial contest.
Minimal batters reached base for much of the game as both
Noah Carpenter (Herkimer, N.Y.) and Blue Jay starter Brandon Cahill traded zeros on the line score through the first six innings. In the seventh, USJ broke through on the scoreboard with the only two runs of the game coming on a bases-loaded free pass and a sacrifice fly.
Pitching continued to rule the day as both
Isaac Parker (Jay, Maine) and
Jordan Talbot (Belchertown, Mass.) kept Norwich alive in the final inning and two-thirds to give them a chance. All told, the pitching staff limited the Blue Jays to two runs on five hits and seven punchouts, with Carpenter logging six of them.
However, the Cadets could not find an answer for Cahill, who logged a complete game, permitting four hits and two walks, with two of those hits coming from
Alex DeTomasis (East Greenwich, R.I.).
Norwich's mid-week road swing continues Thursday afternoon when they travel to Vermont State Lyndon for the fourth and final meeting of the season between the two intrastate foes. The first pitch is scheduled for 3 PM.
