PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Norwich Baseball team traveled to Johnson & Wales Saturday afternoon in their Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opener, where the Wildcats emerged victorious.
After a scoreless top of the first for the Cadets, JWU took the lead with two runs in the home half, before tacking on another run in the second. While Aidan Vining kept Norwich off the basepaths, a two-run home run by Trevor Juan extended the Wildcat lead in the fourth.
Nathan Abbott (Durham, Maine) came on in relief after the home run and kept JWU at bay, allowing two hits and two free passes in three and a third innings on the mound. In the eighth, the Wildcats added five more runs to end the contest early. Three different Cadets had extra-base hits on the day Dillan Garza (San Antonio, Texas), Ryan Miller (Westhampton, N.Y.), and Isaac Maldonado (Miami, Fla.).
The Cadets will continue GNAC play on March 23 when their road trip continues with a stop in Lasell. First pitch of the twin bill is set for 1 PM.
