WALTHAM, Mass.- The Norwich Baseball team wrapped up the weekend with a twin bill at Lasell Sunday afternoon, during which the Lasers took the sweep.
The opening contest started as a pitcher's duel, as neither lineup could touch starters
Ryan Miller (Westhampton, N.Y.) and Adam Marsh. Lasell was the first team to plate a run in the fifth, but the Cadets responded in the top of the sixth.
Kevin Ohlsen (Shirley, N.Y.) led things off with a double to left field, before moving over to third on a sacrifice bunt. The next hitter,
Isaac Maldonado (Miami, Fla.), drove Ohlsen home with an RBI single to tie the game.
Geffen Franus (Leesburg, Va.) followed that with another single putting two on for Miller who brought everyone home with a three-run home run to give Norwich the lead.
After seven innings of work on the mound, Miller exited with three runs to his ledger to go with two walks and six strikeouts while the Cadets held a one-run lead. After Norwich was kept from extending their lead in the top of the ninth, Christopher Bulk hit a two-run walk-off home run to win the game for Lasell.
The Lasers continued the momentum into the second game, scoring four runs in the bottom of the first. Norwich responded by closing the gap with two runs in the second. A single by Miller and a free pass to
Trevor Lussier (Lyndonville, Vt.) put runners on base. After a passed ball got both runners into scoring position, Ohlsen brought them home with a single to left field.
Lasell scratched across two more runs in the fourth inning, but Norwich responded in the fifth. A
Jakub Hayes (Arlington, Texas) single loaded the bases for
Alex DeTomasis (East Greenwich, R.I.) who walked with one out to score
Baker Stewart (Leesburg, Va.) which was followed by an RBI groundout by Franus. The Lasers scored twice more, getting the score to its final margin.
The Cadets will have one more stop on the road before returning to their home diamond when they visit the Massachusetts Maritime Academy on March 26 at 3:30 PM.
