NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The Norwich University men's tennis team opened their 2025 season in dominant fashion, blanking Vermont State University Lyndon, 9-0, in a non-conference matchup on Saturday afternoon in Shapiro Fieldhouse.
The Cadets set the tone early with a clean 3-0 sweep in doubles play. At No. 1 doubles, the duo of
Terrance Bayly-Henshaw (Scottsville, N.Y.) and
Jaxson Redmond (Kennebunkport, Maine) rolled past Jeffrey Blais and David Gratton, 8-3.Â
Keagan Bakke (Gun Barrel City, Texas) and
Gabe Wettig (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) followed with an 8-0 shutout over Wesley McIntyre and Stephen Wutzl at No. 2, while
Thomas Riddick (Clayton, N.C.) and
Ethan Teluk (Manlius, N.Y.) wrapped up doubles action with an 8-1 victory over James Salvas and Gilbert Flores.
Norwich continued its dominance in singles action, taking all six matches. Bakke outlasted Blais, 6-1, 6-4, in the No. 1 spot, while Bayly-Henshaw defeated Gratton, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 2. Redmond and Wettig each cruised to 6-1, 6-0 wins at No. 3 and No. 4, respectively. Riddick posted a flawless 6-0, 6-0 victory over Flores at No. 5, and Teluk secured the sweep with a hard-fought 3-6, 6-0, 10-5 triumph over Salvas at No. 6.
The victory marks the 27th straight over the Hornets for the Norwich men's tennis program, dating back to a 9-0 sweep within the confines of Shapiro Fieldhouse on Apr. 16, 2009.
