NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The Norwich University men's tennis team continued its strong start to the season with an 8-1 non-conference victory over intrastate foe Vermont State University Castleton on Tuesday afternoon in Shapiro Fieldhouse.

The Cadets set the tone early by sweeping all three doubles matches, securing a commanding 3-0 lead before rolling to five wins in singles play.

Norwich's first point came from the No. 3 doubles team of Thomas Riddick (Clayton, N.C.) and Ethan Teluk (Manlius, N.Y.), who cruised past Ben Chilkott and Dylan Shiland, 8-2.  The No. 2 pairing of Keagan Bakke (Gun Barrel City, Texas) and Gabe Wettig (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) followed with a hard-fought 8-5 win over Tanner Ciufo and Remy Maynard, before the No. 1 duo of Terrance Bayly-Henshaw (Scottsville, N.Y.) and Jaxson Redmond (Kennebunkport, Maine) completed the sweep with an 8-4 victory over Miki Almirall and Alberto Lantelme.

Bakke kept the momentum rolling in No. 1 singles, dominating Almirall, 6-1, 6-1, while Redmond delivered a 6-0, 6-3 win over Maynard at No. 3 singles.  Castleton got on the board with a 6-0, 6-3 victory from Lantelme over Wettig at No. 4 singles, but Norwich quickly responded.

Bayly-Henshaw controlled Ciufo, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 singles, while Teluk blanked Shiland, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 singles.  Riddick capped off the match with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Chilkott at No. 5 singles, sealing Norwich's second consecutive victory to open the season.

The win snapped a two-match losing streak against the Spartans and marked the first home victory over Castleton since 2023.

The Cadets will look to keep their momentum going when they return to Shapiro Fieldhouse on Saturday, Mar. 22, hosting Thomas College at 1:00 p.m.  Norwich then travels to Topnotch Tennis Academy in Stowe, Vt., to take on Vermont State University Johnson on Wednesday, Mar. 26.
