NORTHFIELD, Vt.- The Norwich Women's Ice Hockey team opened their final weekend series against New England College (NEC) Friday afternoon with an emphatic 9-1 victory for their tenth straight win.
Contributions came from up and down the lineup with eight different players finding the back of the net, including two for
Taylor Girouard (Burlington, Mass.) and the first collegiate goal for
Libby Lane (Northville, Mich.). All told 13 different players tallied at least a point including six multi point efforts spearheaded by
Olivia Boyer's (Saint Paul, Minn.) three helpers, closely followed by two each for
Marja Linzbichler (Graz, Austria) and
Alex Leslie (Irishtown, N.B.).
The scoring opened at 4:20 of the first when
Livia Brooks (Walpole, Mass.) gained the zone and rushed towards Pilgrim goaltender Kayden Laller-Whissell. Her attempt was stopped, creating a scramble where Linzbichler's attempt was stopped before Girouard poked it home to open the scoring. After
Madison Brunet (Timmins, On.) saw her first action of the day, Norwich would extend their lead with Brooks ripping a wrist shot over Laller-Whissell off a Linzbichler faceoff win.
Just passed the halfway point, the Cadets would add a third tally.
Grace Joscelyn (Hooksett, N.H.) freed the puck from a board battle before it was collected in the neutral zone by
Jenna Nikles (Riley, Mich.). Nikles rushed into the zone before passing it off to
Anna Lisac (Euclid, Ohio) who moved around Laller-Whissell for the third goal of the opening frame.
After a penalty kill to open the second stanza where they did not allow a Pilgrim shot, the Cadet offense went back to work. Seven minutes in, after Leslie and
Neris Archambault (Pepperell, Mass.) exchanged passes, Leslie sent it to the left circle for
Julia Richardson (Commerce, Mich.) for the goal. Before the period concluded,
Rylie McIntyre (Brunswick, Maine), Nikles, and Girouard would score, with Nikels's goal coming via the powerplay. In the final minute of play, NEC's Kate Devlin would score to break the goose egg.
Early in the third, it was
Jordan Brady's (Green Bay, Wis.) turn to score, before Lane created a turnover and roofed a wrist shot to conclude Norwich's nine goal outburst. The Cadets and Pilgrims will conclude the regular season Saturday afternoon Feb. 15 at 1 PM where Norwich will honor the members of the 2024-25 graduating class. Â
