NORTHFIELD, Vt.- In their final home contest of the 2025 campaign, the Norwich Football team played host to Salve Regina to continue New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Senior Day.
The Seahawks jumped ahead early, getting in scoring position after recovering the muffed opening kickoff and connecting on the game's opening score three plays later. After Norwich's ensuing drive stalled, Salve Regina embarked on a twelve-play drive resulting in an unsuccessful field goal attempt, which they made up for on their following drive, giving the Seahawks a ten-point lead after the first quarter.
On their opening drive of the second quarter, powered by a fake punt connection between
Caleb Laisch (Alexandria, N.H.) and
Madux McGrath (Amherst, N.H.) on a fourth down conversion, and a second fourth down conversion when
Tyler Hermanns (Wading River, N.Y.) connected with
Henri Bourque (Claremont, N.H.), the Cadets found the scoreboard courtesy of a
Zack Zegarra (Ridgewood, N.J.) field goal.
Salve Regina responded with another scoring drive, but the Cadets responded soon thereafter.
Cameron Sousa (Saugerties, N.Y.) came up with a chunk reception of 17 yards, but Norwich was forced to punt, where they drew a roughing the kicker foul. Two more big completions to Bourque and
Tommy McDonagh (Braintree, Mass.) set up a 26-yard pass and catch between Hermanns and Bourque, cutting the Salve Regina lead to one score. With 29 seconds to work with, the Seahawks moved the ball to the Norwich 29, where they connected on a last-second heave, making it a two-score game right at the halftime buzzer. Salve Regina found the endzone two more times to close out the scoring.
Hermanns finished the day with an 83.3% completion rate, while Bourque hauled in seven catches for 63 yards and a score. Defensively,
Ben Primich (Yardley, Pa.) had a standout day with 20 total tackles, a sack, and 2.5 tackles for loss, while
Jalen Elibert-Fowlkes (Saint-Hubert, Que.) had two pass breakups.
Before the game, the Cadets honored the 12 members of the 2025-26 graduating class for their contributions to the program over their tenure.
"This senior class is part of a special group of young men who stuck with the Norwich Football program through thick and thin, ups and downs, and periods of change," Head Coach
Bill Russell said. "They represent the complete spectrum of what Norwich has to offer. Everything from future architects to Army officers is represented in this class. They are outstanding students and young men of character. I can't thank them enough for the faith they showed in me and the effort they put forth to move the football program forward. They will most certainly add to the rich legacy of outstanding men and women this institution has produced, and it's been a distinct honor to be their head coach."
