BOSTON, Mass.- The Norwich Women's Soccer team travelled to face reigning Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Champion Emmanuel on Wednesday, where the Cadets earned their first draw against the Saints since 2012.
Emmanuel looked to assert themselves early, holding the territorial advantage. Defensively, Norwich packed in the Saints' attacking third, limiting their offensive chances.
Hannah Jenkins (Manchester, N.H.) came up with three saves in the frame to keep it scoreless at the break in a period where Emmanuel tallied 12 shot attempts with
Beatrice Lake (Brookfield, Vt.) and the rest of the defense holding firm.
After the Saints continued to press to start the second half, the Cadets began to find offense on the counter as
Kat Probst (Gouverneur, N.Y.) had a chance stopped by goalkeeper Teigan Robie. In the 81
st minute, Norwich capitalized on one of those counterattacks and took the lead. Probst led the attack up the middle of the field before passing it off to
Heidi Smith (Sammamish, Wash.) on her left, who found the bottom left corner to give the Cadets the lead.
As Norwich looked to preserve the lead, the Saints answered with a goal by Annebel Balogh de Galantha directly from a free kick in the final minute, bringing the game to a draw.
The Cadets will return home for their next contest when they host the University of Saint Joseph on Oct. 11 at 4 p.m., when they will honor the members of the 2025-26 graduating class.
