NASHUA, N.H.- The Norwich Women's Soccer team opened their final road swing of the regular season with their penultimate contest against Rivier Saturday afternoon, continuing Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play.
After the early chance by
Bella Roy (Weare, N.H.) misfired, the Raiders held the territorial edge with
Michaela Dubey (Belchertown, Mass.) and the rest of the defense holding the fort. The Cadets answered with several chances off corners, but were also kept off the scoreboard, which remained until halftime.
In the opening minutes of the second half,
Lily Briggs (Fair Haven, Vt.) rang a shot off the crossbar. Minutes later, Rivier broke the ice with a goal by Leah Morrier. Several minutes later, Norwich had another close call on a chance by
Colby Magoon (Loudon, N.H.) that was stopped by Raider goalkeeper Bri Nugent.
Halfway through, the Cadets had several chances off corners that were nullified, along with more Nugent saves on
Emma Korrow (Northfield, Vt.) and
Heidi Smith (Sammamish, Wash.). Rivier extended their lead in the 78
th minute before Nugent made two more saves on Briggs and Roy to preserve the result.
Norwich will round out their regular season when it travels to Mitchell on Oct. 28 at 3:00 p.m.
