Women's Soccer: Probst, Perry Notch Braces as Cadets Knock off Pilgrims

NORTHFIELD, Vt.- The Norwich Women's Soccer team rounded out the home portion of their 2025 schedule Wednesday night with an emphatic 4-2 victory over New England College (NEC) in which Kat Probst (Gouverneur, N.Y.) and Maddy Perry (Fair Haven, Vt.) netted two goals apiece.

Probst opened the scoring in the third minute, after winning a battle for the ball at the top of the box and rifling a shot to the top left corner with her right foot for the icebreaker. Not long after, in the eighth minute, a long ball from the attacking midfield off the foot of Pilgrim midfielder Shelby McBain found its way into the net to even the score. Both sides traded chances, but Hollie Bomba and Abby Kirrane (Lunenburg, Mass.) traded saves to keep the score tied at one at the break.

Immediately out of the locker room, the Cadets broke the tie. Lily Briggs (Fair Haven, Vt.) kick-started the attack down the left flank and sent the ball into the box for Heidi Smith (Sammamish, Wash.), whose original shot rang off the left post. Probst collected the ricochet, cleaning up the loose change to break the deadlock in the 48th minute.

Norwich continued to press the offense and extended their lead in the 67th minute. Off a throw-in, Bella Roy (Weare, N.H.) touched the ball along to Perry, who came barreling down the right side. From ten yards out, Perry would send a strike just inside the near post to make it a two-goal game. Minutes later, in the 73rd minute, NEC shrank the deficit to one on a penalty kick.

Two minutes later, the Cadets regained the two-goal lead when Smith fed Perry, who sent a shot under a diving Bomba in the 76th minute, rounding out the scoring on the night. Smith also starred offensively for Norwich with two helpers on the night.

Norwich will travel down to Nashua Saturday afternoon for their penultimate contest of the campaign when they face Rivier at 3:00 p.m.
