NORTHFIELD, Vt.- The Norwich Women's Soccer team's attack erupted Friday evening for three goals in the first ten and a half minutes against Dean in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play.
The Cadets dominated possession from the outset and broke the ice five minutes in. A goal kick by Lexi Gerow was knocked down in the attacking midfield by
Maddy Perry (Fair Haven, Vt.), who sent the ball ahead to
Lily Briggs (Fair Haven, Vt.). Briggs took the ball towards the left post and centered it to
Jasmine Hackman (Clear Brook, Va.) to put Norwich ahead.
As the Cadets kept the pressure going, after getting the ball from
Mya Sanders (Northfield, Vt.), Perry touched the ball to
Heidi Smith (Sammamish, Wash.), who sent a long pass ahead to Hackman. Hackman slid the ball into the bottom left corner with her right foot to extend the lead in the ninth minute. Two minutes later, Hackman and Perry linked up to get the ball to Briggs for the third tally in the opening 10:27.
Norwich would score two more before the half, with
Bella Roy (Weare, N.H.) heading home a Smith corner in the 23
rd minute, and
Antonia Pellon (Pownal, Vt.) hitting a direct corner into the goal off Gerow's fingertips to give the Cadets a five-goal lead at the half. In the frame, Norwich took all 17 shot attempts with 12 going on target, holding 68% of the possession. Out of the break,
Kat Probst (Gouverneur, N.Y.) tallied the sixth and final goal of the contest.
It was a career day for Hackman, notching her first collegiate brace and an assist. Perry also had a three-point night with as many helpers, followed by Smith with a pair. In goal,
Abby Kirrane (Lunenburg, Mass.) and
Hannah Jenkins (Manchester, N.H.) split the clean sheet.
Norwich will round out the home portion of their schedule when it hosts New England College on Oct. 22 at 7:00 p.m.
