Women's Soccer: Magoon, Probst Lead the Way as Cadets Pounce Pride

NORTHFIELD, Vt.- To open their six game homestand, the Norwich Women's Soccer team's offense came out swinging scoring three goals in the first 22 minutes Tuesday evening when they hosted Regis.

In the fourth minute, Kat Probst (Gouverneur, N.Y.) took a throw in down the left sideline. Facing a double team, she booted the ball towards the middle of the field where Colby Magoon (Loudon, N.H.) came across the formation to outrun the Pride defenders to the ball and sent a shot off her left foot to the bottom left corner to break the ice.

Six minutes later, Probst connected with Magoon again on a similar play. Probst's cross into the box was one-touched home by Magoon from the football goal line to extend the Cadet lead. After Regis pushed the offense at their end, they were issued a yellow card in the 22nd minute. On the ensuing free kick, Lindsey Duggan (Belmont, N.H.) sent a ball from the right side of the attacking midfield to the left goal post for a Probst header, pushing the Norwich lead to three, which they would take into halftime.

Looking to mount a comeback, the Pride pressed the attack to start the second half. After two consecutive stops, a third chance opportunity by Avary Hall found the back of the net to cut into the Regis deficit. That would be the lone blemish on Rebecca Karis's (Fayetteville, N.C.) ledger for the day, making four of her six saves in the second half. Karis, along with the backline led by Beatrice Lake (Brookfield, Vt.), quelled any chance of a comeback and sealed the 3-1 win for Norwich, their first ever victory over the Pride.

The Cadets' lengthy homestand continues Saturday night Sept. 21 when Albertus Magnus comes to town for a 7 PM kickoff during Homecoming weekend.
