Matt Cetin Steps Down as Head Softball Coach

NORTHFIELD, Vt.- After four seasons at the helm, Head Coach Matt Cetin has stepped down as the head coach of Norwich Softball.

"I would like to thank Matt Cetin for his many contributions to Norwich Softball over the past four seasons," Norwich Director of Athletics Ed Hockenbury said. "Matt is an incredibly hard-working and selfless coach, dedicated to doing all he can to support his student-athletes, not only in softball, but in their academic and military pursuits as well. In addition to the many hours spent coaching, Matt elevated recruiting practices for our program, worked tirelessly on the field no matter how challenging the weather was, and coordinated all aspects of an annual southern trip for his team. He also helped develop improvements in our mental health procedures and was an active and insightful member of our department. Norwich Athletics and our softball program will miss him, and we sincerely appreciate all he did for us.

Cetin came aboard as an assistant in 2019. In his two seasons in that role, the Cadets held a combined record of 20-17 including a 6-2 start in 2020 which was their best in 17 years. Since taking over the head coaching role, Cetin has coached five players to Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) All-Conference accolades while making significant upgrades to the softball facility.

A national search for the next Norwich Softball Head Coach is currently underway.
