Softball: Thomas, Laroche collect major GNAC weekly awards, DeCota, Munson land on Honor Roll

WINTHROP, Mass. - Following one of the most productive offensive stretches of the season, four members of the Norwich University softball team earned weekly recognition from the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC), as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.

Junior Courtney Thomas (Strafford, N.H.) was named GNAC Player of the Week for the first time in her career, while freshman Ellie Laroche (Essex, Vt.) collected GNAC Rookie of the Week honors for the first time.  Madison DeCota (Strafford, N.H.) and Emily Munson (Angleton, Texas) were also named to the GNAC Weekly Honor Roll.

Thomas becomes Norwich's second GNAC Player of the Week honoree this season, joining DeCota, who earned the award on Mar. 9.  Laroche also becomes the Cadets' second Rookie of the Week selection of the spring, following Charlii Carbajal Sanchez (Broomfield, Colo.), who received the accolade that same week.

Thomas powered the Norwich lineup across an eight-game stretch, batting .481 on a 13-for-27 showing with 12 runs scored, 14 RBIs, six doubles, one triple, and one home run.  She played a central role in the Cadets' historic offensive outburst against Vermont State University Lyndon, highlighted by a record-setting performance in the opener.

In Norwich's 45-11 victory over the Hornets, Thomas went 6-for-8 with three doubles, a home run, nine RBIs, and six runs scored.  Her six hits tied the program's single-game record, while her nine RBIs established a new Norwich single-game mark.  She also matched the school record with three doubles in the contest.

Thomas continued to produce throughout the week, adding a pair of doubles and two RBIs in Norwich's 13-3 win over Vermont State University Johnson before closing the season with multi-hit performances in both games against Regis College.  Defensively, she handled all 23 chances without committing an error.

Laroche delivered an outstanding week of her own, batting .600 on a 15-for-25 effort with 13 runs scored, six RBIs, and four doubles across eight games.  The freshman recorded multiple hits in six contests and remained a steady presence in the heart of the Norwich lineup.

She opened the stretch with a perfect 3-for-3 performance in a 9-0 win over VTSU Johnson, then added a 4-for-5 showing with two doubles, two RBIs, and four runs scored in Norwich's 17-4 victory over VTSU Lyndon.  Laroche also stayed productive in conference play, collecting four hits over doubleheaders against Emmanuel College and Regis.

In the field, Laroche was flawless at first base, handling all 33 chances without an error.

DeCota earned Honor Roll recognition after carrying the heaviest workload in the circle for Norwich while continuing to contribute at the plate.  She made five appearances and four starts during the eight-game week, totaling 23.0 innings, 21 strikeouts, two complete games, and one shutout.

Her strongest pitching performance came in a 9-0 win over VTSU Johnson, where she tossed a five-inning shutout, allowing just two hits while striking out four.  She also earned the win in Norwich's record-setting 45-11 victory over VTSU Lyndon.

Offensively, DeCota batted .500 on a 15-for-30 week with seven RBIs, 10 runs scored, three doubles, and three triples, continuing to impact the game in multiple phases.

Munson rounded out Norwich's honorees after putting together a consistently strong week across all eight games.  She batted .520, going 13-for-25 with 10 RBIs, nine runs scored, and three doubles while recording four multi-hit performances.

She went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored in Norwich's 13-3 win over VTSU Johnson, then added a 4-for-6 effort with three RBIs and five runs scored in the Cadets' 45-11 win over VTSU Lyndon.  Munson also remained productive in conference play, collecting four hits and two RBIs over doubleheaders against Emmanuel and Regis.

Like Thomas and Laroche, Munson was perfect defensively during the week, posting a 1.000 fielding percentage over 21 total chances.

The weekly recognition caps a season that saw Norwich produce several standout individual performances and one of the most explosive offensive games in program history.  The Cadets closed the 2026 campaign with 12 victories.
