VERO BEACH, Fla.- The Norwich baseball team concluded their spring break trip to Florida with a doubleheader against Kenyon.
The Owls opened the scoring in game one with two runs apiece in the first two innings. The Cadets ate into the lead in the bottom of the second.
Michael Sabasteanski (Ashburn, Va.) got a base hit up the middle with two down and would be driven home two hitters later by
Kevin Ohlsen (Shirley, N.Y.) to get on the scoreboard.
After Kenyon extended their lead in the fourth, Norwich drew closer in the bottom of the sixth. To lead off the frame,
Brock Carpenter (East Berlin, Pa.) singled and would take second on a wild pitch. Two batters later, Carpenter was driven home by
Joe Grygent (Cataumet, Mass.) to reduce the deficit to three. The Cadets had chances in the late innings to draw closer, but the Owls' bullpen limited the damage to lock down the 5-2 win, in a game where both bullpens excelled.
In game two, Kenyon plated four runs in the bottom of the first and never looked back in an 11-0 victory. Norwich will return to the northeast with a trip to Coast Guard on Mar 17 for a 1 PM doubleheader.
