NEW LONDON, Conn.- The Norwich baseball team returned to the northeast Sunday afternoon when they travelled to Connecticut to take on Coast Guard in doubleheader action on the campus of Mitchell College.
The first game was a pitcher's duel through the first four innings between lefties Harrison Milbert and
Matt Ingraffia (Lake Grove, N.Y.) with neither conceding a run in that time. The Bears broke through in the bottom of the fifth for four runs enroute to taking game one 5-0.
The Cadet bats came to life for the start of game two. After two walks in the top of the first,
Isaac Maldonado (Miami, Fla.) drove home
Brock Carpenter (East Berlin, Pa.) and
Kevin Ohlsen (Shirley, N.Y.) with an RBI single to left field for Norwich's first runs of the day. In the bottom half of the frame, Coast Guard would tie the game and eventually take the lead for good. Norwich would close the gap in the fifth with a two RBI double by
John O'Connor (Southington, Conn.) and a bases loaded walk to
Isaac Parker (Jay, Maine) and added another run in the sixth with a
Geffen Franus (Leesburg, Va.) RBI single. Â
The Cadets will continue their trip through Connecticut when they open Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play against Albertus Magnus on March 23 in a doubleheader that begins at 1 PM.
