NORTHFIELD, Vt.- The Norwich Women's Ice Hockey team returned to home ice to take on Williams in non-conference action Saturday afternoon. It was the first meeting between the two programs since the 2019 NCAA Tournament, and the Ephs's first game in Kreitzberg Arena since the 2008-09 season.
In the early going, the two sides trading chances putting goalies
Leocadia Clark (Stowe, Vt.) and Erin Pye to the test early. Seven minutes in, the Ephs won a defensive zone faceoff and Ellie French would bury a rebound of a Leah Rubinshteyn wrist shot to give Williams the lead. Five minutes later, chaos ensued in front of the Norwich net, and it would be Charlotte Featherston's turn to pot a rebound giving Williams a two-goal lead. Â After the goal and a successful penalty kill, the Cadets held a decided advantage in territorial play, but Pye kept it a two-goal game after the first with Norwich earning a powerplay with under a second left.
After the Ephs killed off the original powerplay, the two sides traded man advantages throughout the period with the penalty kill units looking strong. In the third, Norwich put their foot on the gas looking to close the gap. Several chances by
Livia Brooks (Walpole, Mass.) and
Marja Linzbichler (Graz, Austria) were stopped by Pye along with a golden opportunity by
Jordan Brady (Green Bay, Wis.) that misfired. With under two minutes remaining, after a timeout, Clark was lifted for the extra attacker, but Pye stood tall preserving a 37 save shutout.
The Cadets will have one more contest before winter break when they travel to Endicott on Dec. 10 at 4 PM.
