HORSEHEADS, N.Y.- In the latter game of a doubleheader weekend, the fourteenth ranked Norwich Women's Ice Hockey team shut out seventh ranked Elmira with three different goal scorers Saturday afternoon.
After Norwich tested Elmira goaltender Emily Finach early, it was
Leocadia Clark's (Stowe, Vt.) turn to weather the storm during an elongated period of continuous play. With just over five-minute remaining in the period, the Cadets would break through. During a sustained shift,
Alex Leslie (Irishtown, New Brunswick) would collect the puck at the point before sending it across the blueline to
Neris Archambault (Pepperell, Mass.). Archambault's original opportunity was stopped by Finach, but
Anna Lisac (Euclid, Ohio.) would pot the rebound for her first collegiate goal. Norwich would kill off a late powerplay to take the one goal lead into intermission.
In the first minute of the second period, Norwich would add to their lead. The Soaring Eagle defender coughed up the puck behind the net to
Livia Brooks (Walpole, Mass.) who skated in front and roofed a backhand to push the Cadet advantage to two. After back-to-back successful penalty kills, Norwich went to a man advantage of their own but were turned away by Finach keeping it a two-goal game after forty.
Norwich kept the momentum going early in the third, eventually padding their lead further. After an icing call,
Olivia Boyer (Saint Paul, Minn.) won the faceoff back to
Jordan Brady (Green Bay, Wis.) at the right point who immediately shot the puck passed Finach, which would be the end of her day between the pipes. The two side would trade opportunities throughout the third, but the score would stand at 3-0 at the final buzzer clinching a 24 save shutout for Clark, the 20
th of her career.
The Cadets will continue their season opening road trip Friday Nov. 15 for their first matchup in nearly seven years with Salve Regina.
