SPRINGFIELD, Mass.- As they entered the final month of the season, the Norwich Football team continued New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) competition when they paid a visit to Springfield College Saturday afternoon.
The Pride went ahead by two scores by reaching the endzone on their first two possessions. After the second score, the Cadets took over in the final minute of the first. The possession would stall forcing them to punt, when
Christan Masonius (Belmar, N.J.) forced and recovered a fumble on the return, setting the offense up on the Springfield 27. Four plays later,
Aidan Sullivan (Eliot, Maine) would find
Henri Bourque (Claremont, N.H.) for a ten-yard touchdown pass and catch, cutting the lead in half.
After Springfield would score another touchdown, the Cadets would embark on a ten-play drive that went 76 yards, highlighted by a 42-yard catch and run by Bourque and including several solid gains on the ground from
Jehric Hackney (Jericho, Vt.). Norwich would get down to the one-yard line before they were turned away on downs. On the ensuing drive, the Pride would hit a big play and go up by three scores at the half.
Norwich would find the end zone one more time in the fourth quarter with Sullivan found Bourque again to close the gap, which was set up by a 49-yard catch and run by
Tommy McDonagh (Braintree, Mass.). Bourque ended the day with 99 yards on six receptions and the two touchdowns. Defensively,
Jeremy Henault (Goffstown, N.H.) led the way with 11 tackles, while
Elijah Torres (Bronx, N.Y.) had two tackles for loss, totaling 13 yards including a sack and another tackle for loss by
Carlos Escobar (Port Chester, N.Y.).
Up next, Norwich will return home for the final time this season when they host MIT on Nov. 9 at 12 PM where they will honor the 21 members of their graduating class.
