NORTHFIELD, Vt.- In their final home contest of the regular season, the Norwich Women's Soccer team took on Elms Saturday afternoon in a pivotal Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contest.
After an early press, the Cadets were awarded the first corner of the contest and made it count. After the ball was sent in, the ball bounced off both
Abby Kirrane (Lunenburg, Mass.) and
Bella Roy (Weare, N.H.) before coming to the left post where
Celine Juneau (Chazy, N.Y.) would send the ball home to the top left corner to break the ice early.
The Blazers generated a chance soon after, but
Hannah Jenkins (Manchester, N.H.) was equal to the task. In the 30
th minute,
Kat Probst (Gouverneur, N.Y.) was tripped up, leading to a penalty kick. As she's done all season,
Lindsey Duggan (Belmont, N.H.) made it count, sending a ball to the bottom left corner for the two-goal lead, which Norwich would take into the half holding a 10-2 shot advantage.
The two side traded opportunities early in the second half, with Elms eventually tying the game with two goals in a three-minute span. However, the Cadets would quell the momentum.
Abby Bruce (Peru, N.Y.) would be tripped up in the box, eventually leading to Duggan's second penalty kick goal of the game, giving her seven on the season and a one goal lead to the maroon and gold. In the dying minutes, Elms's Kellie Smith would cap off a hat trick bringing the game to a draw at the final buzzer. Individually,
Harley Murphy (Guyton, Ga.) notched five shots.
Norwich's season ending road trip will begin with a trip to New England College on Oct. 23 at 7 PM.
