NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The Norwich University men's basketball team found their way back in the winning column in emphatic style, cruising past Dean College, 95-66, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) tilt on Saturday afternoon in Andrews Hall.
Five Cadets logged double-figures, spearheaded by 17 points from
Kohlby Murray (Fair Haven, Vt.), who knocked down five long-range shots.Â
Owen Liss (West Suffield, Conn.) went 6-7 from the floor to tally 16 points, while
Joe Joe DuBrul (Shelburne, Vt.) tallied 15 points.Â
Jalen Olivero (Holyoke, Mass.) and
Charles Nogard (Oviedo, Fla.) added 10 points apiece off the bench.
After the Bulldogs found some momentum in the early goings, Norwich turned a one-point deficit into a 13-point lead, courtesy of a 17-3 run capped by back-to-back layup from Liss and Nogard.
Although Dean swiftly dwindled the lead back down to six, the Cadets again responded, this time building a 16-point lead at the 5:38 mark and carrying that exact advantage into the halftime break after Murray found Olivero for a trey just before the buzzer.
The Bulldogs remained within a similar distance for the opening nine minutes, but Norwich's offense could not be contained, particularly from long range as DuBrul and Olivero combined for a trio of treys in a minute-long stretch.
Norwich kept their lead above 20 for most of the latter half of the second stanza, carrying a game-high lead of 31 with 20 seconds remaining on a pair of
Niklas Nordberg (Fairfield, Pa.) freebies and ultimately securing the 29-point win.
The Cadets rolled in several areas, including in second-chance points (24-12), bench points (32-19), and points in the paint (40-20). Norwich won the battle on the bards, 52-32, while shooting 51.5% from the floor. The stalwart Cadet defense held the Bulldogs to just 31.0% on the day.
Norwich will look to keep the ball rolling on Wednesday, Jan. 24, hosting Colby-Sawyer College for a GNAC tilt at 5:00 p.m. in Andrews Hall. The Cadets will then travel to reigning GNAC champions Albertus Magnus College on Saturday, Jan. 27.
