NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The Norwich University men's basketball team was lights out for the second-straight Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) tilt, this time coasting past Colby-Sawyer College in a dominant 100-60 victory in Andrews Hall on Wednesday night.
Four Cadets crossed the double-digit plateau, spearheaded by an all-around stellar performance from
Owen Liss (West Suffield, Conn.), who went 11-13 from the floor in 27 minutes of action to finish with 25 points, eight boards, four assists, three steals, and two rejections.Â
Jalen Olivero (Holyoke, Mass.) poured in 21 points off the bench, while
Joe Joe DuBrul (Shelburne, Vt.) and
Omarion Jett (Montclair, N.J.) added 14 and 13 points, respectively.
The Cadets rolled out to a swift 8-0 lead in less than two minutes and never looked back, as Norwich built a 22-point advantage halfway through the opening stanza.
Colby-Sawyer tried to find some momentum on a pair of freebies to stop the Cadet flow, but the Chargers were unsuccessful, as Norwich embarked on a 17-6 run to take their largest lead of the half at 49-18. Colby-Sawyer again tried to mount a comeback, whittling Norwich's lead down to 23 at the break.
Any hope would prove too little too late, however, as a Murray trey pushed the Cadet advantage back to 30. Norwich would keep their lead out of reach, courtesy of some clutch jumpers and long-range bombs from DuBrul.
The Cadets ended the game with four straight free throws from
Daniel Bogre (Colchester, Vt.) and
Jason Douglas (Montclair, N.J.), pushing Norwich into triple-digit territory and handing them the 40-point victory.
Norwich led in nearly every stat, holding edges in fast break points (34-16), points in the paint (46-32), bench points (40-30), and points off turnovers (19-13).
The Cadets won the battle on the glass with a 48-32 advantage, while maintaining a blistering 54.3% shooting clip that included a 41.4% mark from long range. Norwich held Colby-Sawyer to just 33.8% from the floor and 2-14 from beyond the arc.
The win marks the first time the Cadets have scored at least 100 points since Jan. 20, 2018, when Norwich poured 101 on Rivier University in a 42-point victory.
Norwich will look to keep the winning streak alive in one of the biggest games of the year, as the Cadets will travel to New Haven, Conn., on Saturday, Jan. 27, for a 3:00 p.m. duel with the reigning GNAC champions in Albertus Magnus College. The Cadets then close the month of January by returning home to host Elms College on Tuesday, Jan. 30.
