NASHUA, N.H.- The Norwich Men's Soccer team picked up their second consecutive victory in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play as they defeated Rivier 2-1 on Saturday afternoon.
The Cadets held the upper hand in terms of possession early tallying the first seven shots, however against the flow of play the Raiders would strike first in the 22
nd minute. However, Norwich was quick to respond with
Nathan Statires (Hampton, N.H.) converting directly off a free kick for the equalizer six minutes later making it a tie game at the half with the Cadets holding a 9-2 shot advantage.
Immediately out of the break Statires would strike again notching the ladder end of a brace off a centering pass off the foot of
Aidan Dwyer (Glastonbury, Conn.) after he took a cross field pass from
Kam Jorgenson (Titusville, Fla.) putting the Cadets ahead for good. With ten minutes remaining, the Raiders pressed the attack, but the Cadet defense stifled the attack not allowing a shot to get to the net.
"Going down a goal on the road is always difficult, but the team showed fantastic resiliency to come back," said Head Coach
Staige Davis.
With two straight GNAC victories, the Cadets will look to keep rolling when they host conference leading Saint Joseph's College of Maine on Tuesday at 4 PM.
