WINTHROP, Mass. - Eight years after the close of one of the most illustrious careers in NCAA Div. III history,
Aliah Curry (Windsor, Mass.) '15 of the Norwich University women's basketball team has been elected to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Hall of Fame, as announced by the league office this afternoon.
The all-time leading scorer in GNAC women's basketball history, Curry was the leading scorer for the Cadets all four years she played. She finished with 2,267 career points, started 105 out of 106 possible games in her career, was a four-time GNAC All-Conference selection, and finished with a 21.39 career scoring average.
Curry was only a sophomore when she broke into the 1,000 point club in a Feb. 2, 2013 game at Anna Maria. She was the first sophomore in GNAC history to accomplish that feat. She became Norwich's all-time leading scorer midway through her junior season, and graduated as the 13th all-time leading scorer in NCAA Div. III women's basketball history.
The Windsor native was a two-time GNAC First Team and two-time GNAC Second Team All-Conference honoree, while also earning slots on the GNAC All-Tournament Team her junior and senior campaigns.
Curry's junior season was filled with historic success, as she averaged 22.3 points on a team that earned the eighth and final spot in the GNAC Tournament. The Cadets, spearheaded by a 33-point effort from Curry, usurped top-seeded Emmanuel College in overtime, snapping the Saints' 64-game conference winning streak.
Curry followed that up with a 28-point showcase in Norwich's semifinal win at Johnson & Wales University, before finishing with 14 points in the championship tilt at Saint Joseph's College. Over the three games, Curry was a near-perfect 33-34 from the charity stripe and averaged 25 points.
Her senior season saw Norwich finish 22-6 overall, good for the fifth-best record in program history, and reach the GNAC Semifinals before earning a bid to the ECAC Tournament. After averaging 22.1 points, Curry received a triage of regional honors in NEWBA Second Team All-Region, D3Hoops.com 2015 All-Northeast Region Fourth Team, and ECAC New England Basketball Second Team. Curry was also recognized with a Concurrent Resolution of the House of Representatives of the State of Vermont.
The Hall of Fame distinction marks the third for Curry, as she was inducted into the Berkshire County (Mass.) Girls' Basketball Hall of Fame in 2018, followed by the New England Basketball Hall of Fame a year later.
A health science major at Norwich who graduated from American International College in 2018 with a doctorate in physical therapy, Curry is currently the owner and operator of Oasis Physical Therapy in Stratford, Conn.
Curry will be one of nine individuals to be enshrined in the GNAC Hall of Fame this fall. A ceremonial event is scheduled for Thursday, August 10 at the Hilton Garden Inn Logan Airport in Boston.
