NORTHFIELD, Vt. – In their final non-conference game of the regular season, the Norwich University Women's Ice Hockey team fell 3-2 in overtime Tuesday night at Kreitzberg Arena.

The chess match was prevalent throughout the game as the first period ended scoreless with the shots slightly favoring the Panthers. The Cadets were the team to break through first in the second period. Defenseman
Molly Flanagan (Lutz, Fla.) sprung
Aimee Headland (Nottingham, U.K.) and
Ann-Frederique Guay (St-Lambert-de-Lauzon, Que.) on an odd man rush the other way. A give-and-go led to a Headland goal which would hold through the end of the period.
Early in the third, Middlebury evened up the score with a goal by Cat Appleyard. The defensive struggle continued until Norwich regained the lead with
Taylor Girouard (Burlington, Mass.) shaking off a defender and finding Guay for the tap in goal. Soon after, the Panthers would start pressing but
Leocadia Clark (Stowe, Vt.) held the fort. With just under two minutes remaining, Middlebury would tie it once again to send the game to overtime. In the extra frame, Britt Nawrocki would convert on the lone powerplay of the entire game to give the Panthers the win.
"Tonight, was a great matchup against a well-coached Panther team," said Head Coach
Sophie Leclerc Doherty. "It certainly could have gone either way, and our defense was excellent. Overall a great effort leading into the final regular season league games."
Those games will start with a matchup against William Smith on Feb. 10 at 6 PM inside Kreitzberg Arena.
