Women’s Ice Hockey: Cadets Ground Herons

NORTHFIELD, Vt. – Coming off a tough loss on Tuesday, the Norwich University Women's Ice Hockey team got back on the winning track with a 3-1 victory over William Smith Friday night at Kreitzberg Arena.

It was a defensive struggle with a lot of continuous action in the first period, but the Cadets would break through first with Mikah Baptiste's (Ottawa, On.) league leading 22nd goal of the season for the 50th goal of her collegiate career and 92nd point. However, the lead was short lived as the Herons tied the game 50 seconds later.

The second period played out much the same as the first with Norwich once again breaking the tie late in the frame with Ann-Frederique Guay (St-Lambert-de-Lauzon, Que.) getting a shot off the crossbar and in the net to put the Cadets ahead for good. On the game winner Nikki Lague (Barre, Vt.) tallied her second assist.

In the third Norwich clamped down on the Herons and Leocadia Clark (Stowe, Vt.) came up with a number of big saves before Neris Archambault (Pepperell, Mass.) sealed the deal with an empty netter.

"William Smith was relentless tonight with their effort, and challenged our group for the full 60," Head Coach Sophie Leclerc Doherty said. "We had to adjust and rise to the challenge. We are looking forward to tomorrow's tilt."

Tomorrow's tilt will be the Cadets third meeting with Elmira this season on Senior Day. Puck drop is set for 3 PM with the ceremonies taking place after the game.
