GORHAM, Maine – Looking to build off a strong week against New England College, the Norwich University Women's Ice Hockey team battled to a 1-1 tie with Southern Maine Friday night at USM Ice Arena.
The Cadets were off and running in the contest. Three minutes in senior
Ann-Frederique Guay (St.-Lambert-de-Lauzon, Que.) found sophomore
Taylor Girouard (Burlington, Mass.) streaking to the net to break the ice. Later on in the period, the Huskies would tie it up after a shift with extended pressure. Despite a 14-7 shot advantage for Norwich, the first period ended tied.
The next 40 minutes the shots were even with Southern Maine's Haley McKim and
Leocadia Clark (Stowe, Vt.) locked in a goaltending duel. The Cadets would outshoot the Huskies 8-1 in overtime, but McKim stood tall.
"Their goaltender was fantastic this evening," Head Coach
Sophie Leclerc Doherty said. "I thought our group put together wave after wave of tremendous offensive chances and yet time ran out."
The seventh ranked Cadets will look to get back on the winning track when they visit Salem State at 3 PM on Feb. 4.
