WESTON, Mass. - The Norwich University volleyball team dropped a pair of three-set duels on Saturday, first falling to Regis College in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) match-up (12-25, 20-25, 9-25) before enduring a non-conference setback (8-25, 18-25, 6-25) to Framingham State at the Regis Athletic Complex.
Norwich held on strong early in the opening game against the Pride, fighting back from a swift 6-1 Regis run in the opening set to whittle the Pride's edge down to three on a few occasions. Despite falling in the first, the Cadets kept the momentum rolling in the second set, opening the frame on a 3-0 spurt en route to a game-best four-point lead, 8-4. The Cadets controlled the flow until about halfway through, as the Pride rallied behind a 7-1 spurt to claim the advantage and scoop victories through sets two and three.
Lillie Ells (Centerville, Mass.) paced the offensive effort with eight kills to go with 10 digs.Â
Gina Caraccio (Churchville, Pa.) divvied out 16 assists, while
Autumn Parkhurst (Parish, N.Y.) logged 14 digs.
Against the Rams, the Cadets again enjoyed their best success in the second set. After storming back from seven-straight by Framingham State, Norwich capitalized on several Ram errors and a handful of kills to come back to within two on a pair of occasions. While the Cadets continued to be a thorn in Framingham State's side, the Rams were able to seize victory.
Ells and
Sam Lebruska (Lynnfield, Mass.) tallied five kills in the match, while
Ava Nihill (Marshfield, Mass.) handed out 14 helpers.Â
Giovanna Fruci (Wrentham, Mass.) led the team in digs with 12.
Norwich will close the regular season on Saturday, November 4, with another road tri-match, this time traveling to Dean College in Franklin, Mass. The Cadets will first battle Lasell University at 1:00 p.m., before taking on the host Bulldogs at 3:00 p.m. in a pair of GNAC tilts.
