Volleyball: Cadets conclude regular season with tri-match against Lasers, Bulldogs

FRANKLIN, Mass. - The Norwich University volleyball team wrapped up the regular season with a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) tri-match at Dean College, falling to Lasell University (11-25, 19-25, 21-25) before battling the host Bulldogs in a four-set loss (18-25, 20-25, 25-18, 24-26) on Saturday afternoon.

The Cadets hung strong early on against the Lasers, keeping Lasell within striking distance before the Lasers exploded to take a double-digit lead.  Norwich picked up momentum throughout the contest, playing the Lasers to closer sets and remained within three on three different occasions late in the final set, but clutch kills by Lasell sealed the deal in the closing moments.

Katie Finn (Peru, N.Y.) led the way in kills for Norwich with five, while Gina Caraccio (Churchville, Pa.) tallied a team-best 15 assists.

Norwich fought valiantly with Dean in the second game, coming close on several occasions to capturing victory before finally breaking through in the third set to force an extra tilt.  The Bulldogs got the better of Norwich in a narrow fourth-setter, despite nine kills from Sam Lebruska (Lynnfield, Mass.) and eight kills from Leah Mathewson (North Chelmsford, Mass.) in the game.

Caraccio doubled her output against the Bulldogs, dishing out 31 helpers while Lebruska had 14 digs.
