Men's Ice Hockey: Goaltending Battle with Skidmore Ends in a Draw

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Norwich University Men's Ice Hockey team continued their strong New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) play with a tight 1-1 tie with Skidmore Friday night in Saratoga.

The Thoroughbreds started off strong with a 16-5 shot advantage in the opening frame, however the game was scoreless at the first intermission. The only scoring in the game occurred in the second period. First, Patrick O'Neal (Indiana, Pa.) gave the Cadets the lead on a power play goal. Six minutes later Skidmore's Everett Wardle tied things up.

The game was a goaltending battle throughout with Skidmore's Tate Brandon and Norwich's Andrew Albano (Hamilton, On.). Brandon stopped 35 Cadet shots while Albano turned away the Thoroughbreds 30 times.

"Albano was outstanding tonight," Head Coach Cam Ellsworth said. "Overall, I'm proud of the effort for a hard-fought road point."

Up next the Cadets will travel to Rutland for a rematch with in state rival Castleton Saturday at 4 PM.
