NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Norwich University football team announced its 2022 schedule on Friday.
The 10-game schedule features five home games and five away games and will mark the Cadets' fifth season as a member of the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC).
Norwich opens the season for the third season in a row with Salve Regina. The Cadets will travel down to Newport, R.I. for a 12 p.m. kickoff on Saturday, Sept. 3.
NU will then play back-to-back home games, including its home opener on Saturday, Sept. 10, hosting St. Lawrence at 12 p.m. on Sabine Field at Haynes Family Stadium in the Hoffman Cup trophy game.
Vermont bragging rights will be on the line on Sept. 17 at 2 p.m. when the Cadets will host Castleton University as part of Homecoming Weekend in the annual Battle for the Maple Sap Bucket in-state rivalry game.
Norwich closes out its four-game non-conference schedule traveling to Endicott College for a noon kickoff with the Gulls. The reigning Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) champions beat Norwich in its 2021 Homecoming game 30-21 in an exciting back-and-forth thriller in front of a capacity crowd at Sabine Field at Haynes Family Stadium.
The Cadets open NEWMAC play on Oct. 1 when they host longtime rival Coast Guard in the Little Army-Navy game at 1 p.m. The Mug will be back up for grabs with Norwich on a two-game winning streak after wins on Bicentennial 200 Weekend in 2019, as well as last year in New London.
Norwich hits the road for back-to-back away contests at Merchant Marine and Springfield with noon kickoffs for each on Oct. 8 and Oct. 15. Springfield won the 2021 NEWMAC title.
The Cadets close out the regular season with two of their last three games at home, starting with hosting two-time NEWMAC champion MIT on Oct. 22 at noon. NU travels to WPI for the first time since 2018 on Oct. 29 and then closes out the 2022 season, hosting Catholic for the final time in NEWMAC play on Nov. 5.
Catholic will depart the NEWMAC in 2023 for the Landmark Football Conference and will be replaced by Norwich's old ECFC-rival SUNY Maritime starting in 2023.
Norwich's 2022 strength of schedule is one of the toughest in Division III football, boasting a .584 winning percentage in 2021.
The Cadets will report back for preseason camp in mid-August and will return two NEWMAC All-Conference selections in senior wide receiver Trevor Chase (Eliot, Maine) and sophomore defensive back Jeremy Henault (Goffstown, N.H.).
